Ms Tan Soh Hwa
Tan Soh Hwa started pursuing her interest in music after graduating from Crescent Girls’ School.
She was a prize winner in the 2nd and 3rd National Music Competition held in Singapore.
The Public Service Commission (Singapore) awarded her a scholarship. The scholarship brought her to the St. Louis Conservatory Of Music, Missouri in USA. She has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Springfield Orchestra in Illinois. She graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Music Performance in 1989. Upon her return in 1989 till 1997, she joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as a horn player.
In 2002, Mdm. Tan was invited to be an adjudicator of the 6th School Band Challenge held in Malaysia. The event was held on November 10th at the IOI Mall in Kuala Lumpur. It saw the participation of a total of 23 primary and secondary school bands from Selangor.
She is currently teaching four secondary school bands: Anglican High School, Crescent Girls’ School, Hai Sing Catholic School and Ngee Ann Secondary School. In the Central Judging of Concert Bands 2005 (secondary schools) organized by the Ministry of Education, Singapore, Anglican High School was awarded Gold with Honor. Crescent Girls’ School, Dunearn Secondary School, Hai Sing Catholic School and Ngee Ann Secondary School were awarded Gold medals.
Under her baton, Mus’Art Wind Orchestra was awarded the 1st prize (2nd Division) in the
15th World Music Contest held in Kerkrade, Netherlands.
