  David Wong Sze Kwan , Band Master

David Wong is currently a member of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 1992, he was awarded a full PSC/SSO scholarship to study at the world-acclaimed New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, USA. He has worked with such notable conducting faculty as Frank Battisti and Richard Hoenich; trombone faculty John Swallow, John Rojak, Scott Hartman and Norman Bolter. David has started playing the bass trombone at the age of 14 and within two months was performing with the Singapore Youth Orchestra.

Soon after, he was awarded the ABRSM grade 8 with distinction and two years later the LRSM diploma. He then went on to perform regionally with the acclaimed World Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Asian Youth Orchestra. By the age of 20, David had performed with almost every major professional orchestra, for ballet companies and at various musical theater venues in Southeast Asia, including numerous performances with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and Malaysian National Symphony Orchestra.

Beyond the Southeast Asian region, David has been awarded full scholarhips to attend the prestigious Aspen, Tanglewood and Pacific Music Festivals. Awards include a solo prize at the Eastern Trombone Workshop competition in Washington, and his brass quintet was awarded first prize in the Yellowstone International Music Competition in Ohio,USA. His conducting awards include numerous gold medals at the local competition in Singapore, a top prize with Anglo-Chinese Junior College in 1997, and a gold medal with Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) at the 1997 International Music Festival in Sydney.

Currently in Singapore, David is an active performer and educator. His responsibilities include music director/conductor of Mus'Art Wind Orchestra; bandmaster of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Chung-Cheng High School (Main), Raffles Girls' School; faculty at the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Bands, and the Singapore National Youth Orchestra; and, manager of the audio recording company - Rolton Productions
