The Mus’Art Wind Orchestra (MWO) is a musical group under the wing of the Jurong Green Community Club.
Formed in 1998, the MWO has illustrious experience in bringing quality music to music lovers and the community. Each year the band has a few performances, bringing music to the people of all ages not only at the various concert halls, but also to the heartlands of Singapore during the festive periods.
Following her success at the 15th World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade, The Netherlands, MWO went further to achieve a first prize in the first division of the 16th WMC in 2009. The orchestra had the privilege to have its consultant and friend, Dr Hardy Mertens, who had not only composed the orchestra’s well received contest choice piece but also having committed his precious time to teach and guide us. The orchestra’s choice piece was also included in the contest compilation which featured the highlights of the contest.
Constantly recruiting band enthusiasts, MWO welcomes all musicians who would like to further pursue their interest in wind music after graduating from their respective education institutes. The Mus’Art Youth Wind Orchestra (MYWO) was also formed to provide an avenue for younger musicians to experience a community ‘music-making’ experience. The Youth Orchestra also had their inaugural concert in June 2011.
In the pursuit to reach higher standards of wind music making and to increase the public awareness of wind music as a performing art in Singapore, Mus’Art Wind Orchestra will continue in its efforts to create a place of excellence in wind band music.
